National meeting on Ratification of the FCTC for (former) Serbia and Montenegro was held in November 18, 2005 in Podgorica, Montenegro.
The Parliament of (former) Serbia and Montenegro approved the ratification ofthe FCTC on December 1, 2005. The ratification instrument of the FCTC wasdeposited at the UN in New York on February 8, 2006, and entered intoforce on May 9, 2006.
The national workshop for capacity building in comprehensive tobacco control was held in Tivat on 8-9 February, 2007. It was organized by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Welfare of the Republic of Montenegro and supported by the Regional Bureau of the WHO for Europe and Institute of Public Health of Montenegro,. The main target of the Conference was to present and discuss Montenegrin experience in tobacco control, the role of health system and other relevant sectors in tobacco control, political and economical commitment and support for tobacco control, as well as implementation of acting legislation and National Action plan in the area, as strengthening the inter-sectorial cooperation regarding tobacco control at the national
The meeting was attended by more of 50 participants, which were the representatives of the governmental and non-governmental institutions and organizations from the Montenegro that deal with the problems related to tobacco control or took an active part in the activities performed so far in this field, WHO representative from Podgorica and a large number of media representatives.
